Our sources
We only publish numbers we can trace to a primary source: the original study, official statistics, or the organization's own reporting. Secondary retellings, influencer polls, and unattributed "studies show" claims are rejected at the fact-gate.
The work we cite
These are the books and papers the pages here point to when they describe a pattern that has been studied. Each link goes to the publisher or to the journal record, not to an article about it, and each was checked on the date below. Where a claim is ours rather than theirs, the page says so in the sentence.

Numbers: why there are none
This site publishes no statistics. Figures about control, gaslighting and abuse circulate widely in reworded form, and most of them cannot be traced back to a population, a method or a year. Rather than repeat a number we cannot stand behind, we describe what the research says in words and link the work itself. If that changes, every figure will appear here with its primary source before it appears anywhere else.
Primary sources for statistics
No primary sources are cited yet — the fact gate is empty. Every source we rely on will be listed here with its year and method.
What we rejected, and why
This list matters as much as the one above. These are figures that circulate widely in writing about relationships and warning signs, and that we could not trace to a primary source — so they do not appear anywhere on this site.
Nothing has been rejected yet. When a widely-repeated figure fails verification, it gets named here so it never creeps back in.
The rules
- Named source in the same sentence as the number, with the year.
- No diagnosis, ever. We describe behaviour that people produce; we do not name conditions, and no page here labels anyone's partner.
- No helpline numbers. They vary by country and go out of date silently, so we point to a service in your own country rather than print a number we cannot keep current.
- Primary source only — we link the origin, not an article about it.
- Dated verification: every source below carries the date we last checked the link.
- Unverifiable → unpublished. No exceptions.
